Types of Tests
The Opticenergo Testing Center conducts a full range of tests on cable products:
- Inspection of design and structural dimensions.
-
Electrical parameters:
- resistance of conductors and insulation;
- voltage testing up to 200 kV;
- current testing;
- thermomechanical loads.
-
Mechanical parameters (including at elevated and reduced temperatures):
- tensile load;
- mechanical strength (tensile strength);
- bending and repeated bending;
- axial twisting and impact;
- crushing forces;
- galloping and aeolian vibration;
- elongation;
- vibration strength and vibration resistance.
-
Various environmental effects:
- resistance to high and low temperatures;
- resistance to humidity and rain;
- oil resistance and petrol resistance;
- resistance to chemical environments;
- ozone resistance;
- corrosion resistance (salt fog);
- resistance to seawater.
-
Fire tests:
- flame propagation prevention during single cable installation;
- flame propagation prevention during bundled cable installation;
- determination of fire resistance rating;
- smoke generation during burning and smoldering;
- determination of halogen acid gas emissions;
- determination of the acidity of emitted gases (pH and specific conductivity).
-
Unique tests:
- tracking resistance of self-supporting optical cable;
- resistance of overhead line conductor coatings to ice formation.
